If you are a college student, be sure to check out their health plan. Usually they have robust plan benefits and is usually free or very inexpensive. It may be a great resource for getting your child off your corporate benefit plan or getting yourself something more affordable. Have questions?

College students, and parents of college students, this video is for you. My name is Niki Trentacosta and I help businesses search for and administer employee benefits. One of the things I always come across as I'm working with a client or a prospect is quoting employees who have college students on the group health plan.
I'm here to let you know that there is a cheaper alternative solution for you college students. Most universities have a cheap or free health care program for their full time students and staff. These programs, for example I looked up the University of Texas just this morning, and they have a $350 deductible with an 80% coinsurance, and $6,000 out of pocket max. Now, I don't know about you, but I know that there are a ton of health care plans that are not nearly as great as that. The best thing about this program is that it is free to students.
So if you are a family member, if you are a parent who's on a group health policy, and you are trying to figure out ways to help manage your budget, lower your out of pocket expenses on a monthly basis. Be sure to reach out to your child, your student and ask them about the student healthcare program for their university or college. Heck, even community colleges that are associated with the universities, or larger community colleges in the DFW Metroplex offer these opportunities for students at super low rates.
If you're a parent who just wants to check it out on your own, go onto your student's College website and search for student health insurance. Heck, if you are a student yourself, to do the research and see if it is a more cost effective option for you to go on to a more robust plan somewhere else.
